INDICATIONS (summary)
This medication contains aspirin, which has, among other properties, that of fluidifying the blood. This effect persists 4 to 8 days after stopping treatment. The coating of the tablet makes it possible to release the active substance in the intestine rather than in the stomach and thus prevent the irritating effect of aspirin on the mucosa of the stomach.
It is used to prevent:
- the recurrence of cardiovascular diseases caused by a blood clot in an artery ( myocardial infarction , stroke …);
- complications after coronary artery bypass surgery.
CONTRAINDICATIONS (summary)
This medication should not be used in the following cases:
- allergy to salicylates or NSAIDs ,
- ulcer of the stomach or duodenum ,
- haemorrhage or hemorrhagic risk,
- pregnancy : from the 6th month onwards, or in prolonged periods, during any period of pregnancy.
WARNING (Contents)
Aspirin is not an innocuous drug. Only your doctor can decide if the prolonged intake of this medication is justified by your state of health.
Precautions are necessary in the case of a history of stomach ulcer or duodenum , even of old, asthma , gout , renal insufficiency and in the woman who wears an IUD.
Aspirin may increase the duration or abundance of bleeding during menstruation.
Avoid taking this medication during the week prior to dental extraction or surgery: increased risk of bleeding .
DRUG INTERACTIONS (summary)
This medication may interact with other medicines, including:
- anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents ( PLAVIX …): increased risk of haemorrhage;
- drugs containing benzbromarone or methotrexate.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking a corticosteroid or medication containing pentoxifylline or interferon alfa.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST-FEEDING (summary)
Pregnancy :
Adverse effects on the mother and the unborn child have been demonstrated when aspirin, like other NSAIDs , is used in the last 4 months of pregnancy; the risk exists even with a single intake and even if the pregnancy is over term.
Consequently, aside from certain very specific medical situations, aspirin can only be used on an ad hoc basis during the first 5 months, and its use is contraindicated from the 6th month.
Breastfeeding:
This drug passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended during treatment.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE (summary)
The tablets should be swallowed whole without being chewed, with a glass of water, preferably before the meal.
Usual dosage:
- Adult: 100 to 300 mg per day.
TIPS (summary)
The regular use of this medication does not contraindicate the punctual aspirin more strongly dosed, during a headache or a fever for example.
POSSIBLE ADVERSE EFFECTS (summary)
Gastritis , abdominal pain, nose or gum bleeding.
Rare and sometimes serious:
- haemorrhage of the digestive tract: bloody vomiting, black stool or, more often, imperceptible blood loss, responsible for the progressive onset of anemia ;
- allergic: urticaria , edema , asthma .
